Treatment 3 Post-game chat

March 21, 2018 · from Lesley’s original CaringBridge journal

I apologize for the delay in updating everyone after round 3. I actually had a great week and just reveled in enjoying all my people, so please forgive me for not answering my phone/text/FB messages, etc. or sending thank you’s for the cards and gift cards (I’ve been trying to at least text people – Lord knows I’m terrible at getting written Thank You notes done on time. I think it took me almost six months to do all my wedding ones. Can’t you hear Emily Post rolling over in her grave now?!). We have really appreciated all the gift cards – eating out has never been so fun! And the PayPal gifts – the Lord has provided every extra financial need almost to the penny. It is overwhelming in such a neat way.

Back to the past week….I think it was a good sign that at chemo that Friday someone fired up Bob Marley. We all sat in the bright sunny room in our big tan vinyl recliners getting our infusions as he sang that it was all going to be alright. Marsh and I ran some errands and tried out a new restaurant. My mother-in-law had recovered from her bout with our shared stomach bug and had a good time with the boys and got all her Gus snuggles caught up. She stayed with us over the weekend because the big boys and Marsh all went to a wild game supper/fundraiser on Saturday night. Sunday was a down day for me, but not nearly as bad as the previous ones had been. Monday I was pretty tanked out and didn’t feel so great at all but it was the big three’s first baseball game and I really didn’t want to miss it. I pushed through and went. This was my first big outing around people I knew since I have lost my hair. I still haven’t found anything that makes me super comfortable and confident so who knows what I may be wearing when you see me out. That day I went just a hat. Our plans to keep my better hydrated this time seemed to work too. My bloodwork at the in-between week was great again! I have told everyone it feels like getting good grades on your report card! And the tumor is shrinking – while it hasn’t been officially measured again it is in a place where I can very easily see and feel it and I can tell it is much smaller.

All in all, it was a good week. I felt much more normal and really enjoyed just getting to do all the mundane stuff that makes up my life. I didn’t feel like cancer was in charge this round. I can’t believe we are almost to chemo Friday again! This week will be my fourth and final AC treatment – woo hoo! I will get a week off then move to Taxol for 12 straight weeks.
