a quick medical update 11/27/18

November 27, 2018 · from Lesley’s original CaringBridge journal

I just thought I’d give everyone a quick medical update. Thankfully there hasn’t been much excitement to report. My skin healed up from radiation just like it was supposed to with no drama. It still gets itchy from time to time but probably nothing more than the rest of you get with dry winter skin. Since being back home from TN I have had a doctor’s appointment a week it seems – if not for me, for the kids. I am on the merry-go-round of follow up visits. All have been pretty boring with “you are looking great” and “I couldn’t be happier” and “wow your hair is really coming back in!” reports from the cancer docs. I also had to do a big girl thing and get a primary care doctor – I’ve never had one of those before, because, you know, I’ve been super healthy except for cancer 😉 I started taking my hormone blocker (because my cancer was hormone positive this helps to reduce risk of recurrence) and have been on it a month now and thankfully no major side effects. My energy level has waxed and waned but for the most part is on the upswing. We have been back in a pretty normal school routine around here and I’ve been cooking and baking again. I dodged a nasty bug that traveled around my house and was feeling really good about myself but managed to catch another one over Thanksgiving. I spent about 36 hours in the bed but have bounced back much quicker than expected. I’ve been more nervous this year about those things because of my lack of immune system, but my body seemed to handle it pretty normally – we take that as another good sign of healing.

I have a sort of big thing happening at the end of this week – Friday morning, the 30th, I will have a PET scan to just see how everything looks after ALL my treatments. I won’t lie, this makes me nervous. All pathology, exams, bloodwork, etc. has been looking great and we have no reason to be concerned – we don’t expect to find anything – but there is always the unknown – which will be what haunts me from here on I imagine. We are definitely trusting the Lord, we are hopeful, but always cautiously optimistic as far as scans and such go now. SO, all that to say, please pray with us that this is an ALL CLEAR scan and we can let out another big sigh of relief heading into December. I’ll give you all an update on the results when I get them back (hopefully next week).

Good morning my beautiful friend! I will be praying for all good reports and all clear reports. I was able to spend Thanksgiving with my parents and one of my sisters and my oldest daughter and her husband. We had a wonderful time and I’m so very blessed! God bless you Leslie and your family!
