Hold up Lesley….didn’t you say you were having a PET? Ah, yes, yes I did. But insurance…. the people who really run the show instead of the doctors who actually see and treat the patients!
We had a little drama last week where I may or may not have let out some frustrations on an innocent messenger at my doctors office and had to apologize. Long story short (without the entertaining details of me loosing my junk…) is that my insurance said they wouldn’t cover a PET without me having had a CT prior. Now, we heard this whole runaround back in January when we were getting my initial diagnosis and staging done – we went ahead with a CT then because my doctors felt like they could get what info they needed from that and we would just get a PET at the end of treatment to restage. We told them I’d had a CT this year (more than one actually) and they weren’t happy with that because it wasn’t after my surgery. I swear I think they make up their rules as they go along! My sweet doctor even got on the phone with their medical review board and told them this was ridiculous and I had every reason to need a PET – these folks won’t budge from “their policy.” SO, we are playing their game. I had a CT on Friday instead of a PET. My doctor is just as stubborn as I am and she already had the PET rescheduled. We are keeping our fingers crossed that they won’t come up with another reason to deny it this time.
RESULTS! That’s what we are all here for anyway, right?! To quote my doctor “bottom line is everything looks good!” The CT report reads a lot like this: “big medical terms and jargon that I think I understand but am not quite certain” and “unremarkable” over and over – which I think is quite remarkable myself 🙂 There is a small cyst on my liver but it is not concerning to them. I also have a sizable ovarian cyst that I will have to have checked out in January (which explains some hip pain I’ve been having lately) but it is also “of low suspicion” like anything else that might have lit up on this scan. We are thankful for this news and hope that it is a good indicator that the PET will be clear also! It is scheduled for the 14th assuming insurance gives us their blessing. Please pray with us that it is “unremarkable” as well!

And yes, health insurance companies will drive you up a tree and back down again. I am so happy to hear of your results, keep us posted after your PET. May you and your family have a Blessed and beautiful Christmas season and we will continue to pray for you, your family and your Doctors.
