Stealing a little title from John Krasinski because he has been one of the best things on the internet this past month. I do have “Some Good News” today. We will start with yesterday, my white count came up for the first time! It actually doubled! It went from 0.1 to 0.2! Today it ooched up a bit more to 0.3 – baby steps, baby steps. My non-medically educated brain says that this is because the good cells just take a little longer to make than the bad ones so the slow uptick is good. Totally my theory and not what the docs say – they are happy either way. Also my platelets are overachieving and have come up to 134 with no infusions (remember we were at 7 less than a week ago). My hemoglobin has also been hanging at 7.1 without infusions for a couple of days now. These are all wins! I have still been having to have some other supplementation of magnesium and potassium here and there as those levels have dipped several times. All in all, my bloodwork is looking better.
Ursula…I hate to give her the honor of her own paragraph. Today has been the first day I actually woke up with her feeling better. Maybe the tiny increase in white cells are converging on her, certainly the prayers by name helped. Either way I was able to eat (yes, still with medical intervention) without being in excruciating pain. I feel for the first time that she is on on the road to destruction and me on the road to recovery in that spot. I did get a consult from oral surgery about her today and he was not so gentle pulling pieces of her off (OUCH!). He did agree that as everyone else has said, we are just waiting on those white counts to come up and it should get better. So today I started to see the light – we are moving closer to evicting Ursula.
We have gotten several of my preliminary workups done to have me approved for transplant. I had a dental consult, a couple of CT scans, an echo. I think the only thing left on the list is the lung function test which we can hopefully knock out this week. And word on the street is I may get to bust out of here end of this week! We need my WBC to be between 3-4, so we need slightly bigger daily jumps than the past two days, but maybe that was just warming up. I should be having my day 28 biopsy on Thursday – so my hope is that we get that done and I blow this popsicle stand. I have not had a hug in 22 days….that is a long time. My body and heart literally ache for hugs from my menfolk. We must achieve this goal!
So there is my good news for Saturday. I was pretty lazy for the most part today. I walked my laps but smelled something funky in the hall that made me queasy. I laid down and let that pass. I watched a lot of tv and did some marathon napping today. I figure it is exhausting making new white blood cells – at least that’s my story and I’m sticking to it 🙂 Hope you all have had a more exciting Saturday and are looking forward to the Lord’s Day in the morning.

I love your homespun take on things. You put each bit in a cute box from Pinterest and let us open each little piece and enjoy it, even though we know that each little piece caused you some huge pain. Ah, but thank you. We live this with you with the edge taken off by your joy. “The joy of the Lord is …[your] strength!” I will say, Amen, Sister. Thank you for sharing your joy. Praying you can get home to your menfolk very soon. Marsh needs to hold you, and your boys need to behold and be held by their dear mommy. Prayers.
